Project Highlights



The Urban Child Institute (TUCI) launches a comprehensive Website produced by the CMA, aiding TUCI’s promotion of healthy early childhood development in Shelby County, TN.



The Urban Child Institute commissions the CMA to create a multimedia exhibition exploring the connections between the science of early childhood development and actions that can be taken, particularly from conception to age three, to promote healthy foundations for lifelong learning and achievement.



The Center for Urban Child Policy presents data on child and family wellbeing, as well as the roles of community stakeholders in supporting the healthy growth and social development of Shelby County’s children, using information design services and information graphics developed by the CMA.



The Shelby County Office of Early Childhood and Youth (OECY) hires the CMA to produce television PSAs, billboards, and posters as part of its healthy early childhood media campaign.



OECY and Shelby County government select the CMA to design, develop, and implement a decision support system that will help county commissioners further focus on the needs of children and families.



The CMA builds on its prior work with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by engaging in a new collaboration with Duke University Hospital’s pediatric palliative care program and the Duke University School of Nursing.



Bioethics funder The Greenwall Foundation awards Duke University and the CMA a grant to fund the design and development of a digital media-based aid intended to help children with terminal illnesses participate in decisions regarding their care at end-of-life.



Local PBS affiliate WKNO Memphis airs CMA-produced documentary, After the Storm: Stories from Katrina Survivors in Memphis.



The CMA is hired to shoot and edit television PSAs combating domestic and gang violence.

Recognition

Michael Schmidt receives the University of Memphis Alumni Association Excellence in Engaged Scholarship Award for his work, through the CMA, with St. Jude and The Urban Child Institute.

Facilities and Resources

The CMA adds a state-of-the-art usability testing lab to facilitate user-centered application and interface development.

The Center’s installation of new low-watt lighting reduces its production studio’s energy consumption by 75%.

Study Abroad with Hochschule Ulm

The CMA provides its first internship experience for students from Hochschule Ulm by hiring Max Willier through the fall semester.

Two former CMA interns and UofM graphic design students Isaac Roethe and Martina Igberaese spend a semester’s study in Ulm via a study abroad program established by the CMA in collaboration with the UofM’s departments of art and mechanical engineering.
